Various trends have emerged on TikTok over time, from Swedish Candy, Dubai Chocolate and also Wax Bottle Candy. Influencers and Creator Affiliates have been posting videos about these trendy edibiles, and they are available for purchase through TikTok store, Amazon, Ebay and other online platforms and stores.
But What really are Wax Candy all about? And where did it originate from?
Where does Wax Candy come from?
The concept of Wax Candy originally came from the U.S. with Wax Candy springing up and growing in popularity as early as the 1940s. The Wax Bottle Nik-L-Nip was seen across the States of the USA and Canada throughout the 1950s and 1980s even. In fact, the name “Nik-L-Nip” comes from the fact that you could buy the candy for a nickel, and you would then bite off the top of the bottle to drink the syrup juice inside.
Today Wax Candy Bottles are a nostalgic retro type of candy for Millenials and Gen X’s alike, especially those growing up in North America.
What type of Wax Candy exists today?
If you are lucky, you will come across Wax Bottle Candy in various flavors, such as cherry, lemon, lime, orange, grape, strawberry, blue raspberry and watermelon. There are also Wax Candy Sticks available in retro candy stores with the same flavors, as well as Wax Fangs and Wax Lips.
More recently, Wax Candy has been brought back to life through social media (TikTok, Instagram) with more vibrant, playful and cute colors and shapes. You may have seen big butterflies made of beewax (rather than the traditional paraffin wax) or other colorful fantasty-creature shaped wax candies filled with sweet liquid or jam-like juice.
How to eat and enjoy Wax Bottle Candy?
It is not recommended to consume the wax part of the Wax Candy Bottles. Rather, you would bite off the tip of the bottle (or stick) to drink the sweet juice inside. Then you can either discard of the wax bottle, or chew on the wax for some time if you like, similar to a chewing gum. Then it is highly recommended to throw it away.
The companies producing the traditional wax bottles made of paraffin say that the wax is not harmful to swallow per se, but it is definitely not suggested to eat it, but rather just to drink the juice inside and then chew on the wax and/or then throw it away.
